The 3.0i E85 was fitted with BMW’s legendary M54B30 engine. Known to be far more reliable than the N52B30 which replaced it in the Z4 from 2006 onwards. It delivers beautiful linear response and a truly awesome soundtrack, with all the smoothness that only a straight-six can deliver. Mated, in this car, to a slick-shifting 6-speed manual gearbox, makes this a true driver’s car, and a very rare find in this condition, and especially with such low mileage.
Originally a Johannesburg car, this example has no issues with any corrosion or problems with the canvas roof. It has a full service history, reasonably new tyres and has recently had a few of the front suspension bushes replaced as they started showing small cracks from old-age.
The exterior is still in very good condition and the car has never been in any accidents.
Later E89 models simply can not compare to this car in terms of driver engagement, especially since most E89’s were either 4-cylinders or automatics. The E85 was much more the driver’s choice and of the range, the 3.0i Manual was the absolute pick of the bunch. Enough power to have fun in, but without the big expensive servicing and repair costs of the 3.2 M-Roadster.
We will be very sad to see this one go!
